Caroline Wozniacki, a Danish professional tennis player and a former world No.1 in singles, has signed an agreement with Jeffrey Lin, the CEO of GCOX Global Crypto Offering Exchange, to launch her own crypto token.
“To be the first female athlete to have her own token is really cool...I am looking forward to expanding that before other people start getting into it,” the sportswoman commented to Reuters after signing the deal in Singapore.
Earlier in April, the tennis star has been named the global ambassador of “Lympo”, a blockchain-based app that incentivizes exercise and good health practices.
Earlier GCOX signed an agreement with a legendary Philippine boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and a famous English ex-footballer Michael Owen, also promising to launch their tokens.
The CEO of GCOX said that the first star token was likely to be released in the first quarter of 2019, but he didn’t specify whether it was going to be a Pacquiao or an Owen token.
These tokens will allow buyers to purchase exclusive products, buy tickets, and gain access to live communication with celebrities via online streaming. To get celebrity tokens, buyers first have to purchase ACM GCOX coins — the company’s own currency, that has also recently been launched. Representatives of the exchange do not disclose the exact amount of tokens that have been sold so far but they have shared the total amount that the company hopes to gather.
“In theory we are trying to raise $300-600 million” — Lin says.
