Hackers sell logins of the Brazilian Federal Traffic Police for $200 in BTC. An anonymous source that has already bought an access for 0.008 BTC (currently around $52) told this to a local media TecMundo.

The connection with hackers is established via Telegram messenger, which is famous for its end-to-end encryption and therefore is popular among fraudsters and drug dealers. The correspondence is then carried out via ProtonMail, an encrypted mail service.

Cybercriminals managed to obtain confidential police information through banks’ websites, social networks, and electronic trading platforms. The loophole emerged because some traffic police officers used their work email accounts to register on these platforms.

According to TecMundo, those who manage to enter the police system will be able to gain access to a large amount of information about vehicles and fines. Moreover, important police information including work correspondence may fall into the hands of intruders. The problem is aggravated by the fact that the Brazilian Federal Traffic Police does not provide additional measures to protect its electronic platform, such as two-factor authentication. The fraudsters can now impose a fine on any vehicle in the country, simply by entering the platform and inputting data about the car and its owner.

The journalists submitted the information to the police. The law enforcement officials said that an incident will be investigated soon.
