According to Moscow based Russian security firm Group-IB’s research, since February 2017 hackers have stolen $882 million from crypto exchanges, ehtereumworldnews reports.

The group also warns that in 2019 exchanges will be under hackers’ crossfire again and attacks will become more severe.

‘51%’ attacks, when hackers get access to the majority of network nodes and manipulate blockchain on their own, will grow in number as well.

Group-IB identifies that the North Korean state-backed hacker group “Lazarus” is responsible for $571 million of the $882 million total.

Just like Lazarus, there are other hacker groups (MoneyTaker, and Cobalt for example) that are now very experienced in stealing cryptocurrencies by different attacking methods.
