Coinbase early employee and head of institutional products Adam White joined the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Bakkt cryptocurrency platform as a chief operating officer, according to a Medium company announcement.

The Bakkt platform has an advantage over popular exchanges, such as Coinbase, because it promises to trade on a federally regulated exchange, as well as clearing and custody services for crypto systems with guarantees, just as it does on physical stock exchanges.

The news about the departure of White from the company was first published in Bloomberg. White was the fifth employee at Coinbase, and he joined it in 2013 when “the founders were working from home, and Bitcoin traded around $200 per report.“

White was vice president and general manager of the digital asset platform in its institutional business, where he led a team that deployed a series of products targeted at institutional clients. These products include the recent custodial services and an index fund.
