Brazil tops the list of countries with the highest number of reported cases related to Coinhive cryptojacking.
According to the Iranian сybersecurity authority’s report, Brazil has been hit over 81,000 times by Coinhive in 2017. India ranks second with 29,000 cases. On the third place – Indonesia with more than 23,000 registered cases of Coinhive cryptojacking. At the same time, 11,000 computers were detected in Iran, subjected to Coinhive mining.
Coinhive is a hidden mining cryptocurrency software that mines Monero (XMR) Monero (BITFINEX: XMR/USD.BITFINEX). It provides everyone with a program code (API) that can be embedded in the work of the website. After Coinhive is connected to the site, there will be XMR hidden mining using the CPU of the site visitors without their knowledge.
According to a survey in May, about 300 websites around the world contained malicious Coinhive code. Recently, the software was removed from the League of Legends Philippines, and police in Japan investigated a hidden mining case using Coinhive as malware.
