The man in charge of the Barclays crypto trading desk project and the overall digital asset situation, Chris Tyrer, has reportedly left his post.

From insider information it came to light, Chris Tyrer has left Barclays. For around a year he was in charge of exploring as to how the bank could get caught up in crypto. A fellow worker on the digital asset trading desk project Matthieu Jobbe Duval has remained behind. At the moment it is impossible to say in what form will the British bank’s crypto project carry on its existence.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • Barclays is a major world bank, and its attitude to crypto could go on to influence other traditional financial institutions outlook on cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
  • Since the not very positive fluctuation of the market, additional uncertainty from the bank’s crypto project could be potentially damaging for the implementation of crypto into the banking world.
