The beta launched app Coil will now give users the opportunity to gratify their content of choice with Ripple (BITFINEX: XRP/USD).

The internet is an evolving phenomenon that is constantly allowing content creators to interact with their followers in new ways. Thanks to the former CTO of Ripple Labs, Stefan Thomas, who has introduced Coil, a browser extension app, users can now directly donate XRP to content creators. Currently, the app is in its beta form, but it's up and running. This isn’t the first tipping app that the crypto community has seen. Coil shares its fundamental concept with Changetip, a no longer existing bitcoin tipping app, however, Coil is trying to be an alternative to the ad-filled web of today. A flat-rate subscription is available that will allow the users to first and foremost support content and lessen the number of ads.

The Creator of Coil, Stefan Thomas claims:

“For decades, people have discussed the potential of micropayments to support content creators that would move us away from the broken ad-supported web. Others have created subscription services that bundle content. But micropayments and subscriptions have always been built as closed systems, which fail to capture the huge variety of content on the web.”

The app is already integrated with some of the top websites, YouTube, Wikipedia, and Twitch all support the XRP payments that are the first to implement a new technology, Web Monetization, which permits browsers to tip websites.

Coil isn’t the only crypto micro-payments platform, Brave is a browser that operates with BAT tokens and offers a similar array of features to Coil, with an already established user base of around 4 million, promises much-valued privacy to its crypto users.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • This is a new way that blockchain technology can benefit the lives of the common user and turn into a more mainstream instrument.
  • Also, Coil is offering an alternative solution to the advertisement dependent web, and don't we all just hate that ad that pops up just when you're about watch a video or click on a link.
