The French department of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will now be taking cryptocurrency donations. Nine of the more prominent digital assets will be accepted via the website of the charity. Sébastien Lyon, the director of UNICEF France, reasons:
"Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology used for charitable purposes offer a new opportunity to appeal to the generosity of the public and continue to develop our operations with children in the countries of intervention."
Donating crypto isn’t the only way one can help UNICEF, there is an option to contribute your computer power to mine the cryptos that are minable straight onto the wallets of the charity.
Previously UNICEF has already raised money for children in need by asking gamers to download a piece of software that would allow their computers to give some of their power towards mining ETH
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
- Crypto donations are a good way of making sure that the money the well-wishers want to donate for a good cause reaches said cause, and will not get lost somewhere on the way.
- This is yet another step towards diversifying the different fields that cryptocurrencies and blockchain can be implemented in, making the technology more widespread and accessible.
