Newdex exchange confirmed in an announcement that it lost $58,000 due to fake tokens circulation. Hackers issued 1 billion tokens called “EOS” and used them to buy other cryptocurrencies on the exchange.
All in all, robbers have successfully withdrawn 4,028 real EOS (EOS/USD) and sent them to an unknown Bitfinex account.
The total loss for the EOS ecosystem and Newdex users is estimated at 11,803 EOS. In the public announcement, Newdex exchange apologized to customers and assured that it will eliminate the weaknesses in its system. In addition, the platform also stated that they will pursue hackers and prosecute them.
