A six-month course on learning the distributed ledger technology will start in South Korea. As a result, 42 new blockchain specialists will appear in the country. The courses were developed by the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea in conjunction with the Korean Standards Association (KSA) and a blockchain startup from Hong Kong - Waltonchain.

The aim of the courses is to increase the number of qualified specialists in the developing blockchain industry of the country. After the completion of the courses in January 2019, all of its participants will be immediately recruited for work. Thus, the country plans to strengthen the construction of a healthy blockchain ecosystem.

Also from the middle of September start other six-month courses on blockchain technology for young talents. Therefore, the South Korean authorities hope to fill the lack of personnel in the innovative industry and reduce unemployment among the youth.

South Korea Invests in Blockchain

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • The funding of the courses comes from the large investment program of the South Korean authorities, which will last until 2022.
  • In June, the country submitted a blockchain strategy until 2022. The government announced its intention to invest $9 million (10 billion Korean won) to support the development of the blockchain technology industry in the country. The purpose of these investments is to train personnel in the innovative industry.
  • Also, South Korea plans to build a “Crypto Beach”, an analogue of the Swiss "Crypto Valley" in canton Zug. This place will unite businessmen, investors and other participants of the crypto sphere for research and development in blockchain technologies.
