Marvel comics company is considering to file a lawsuit against the cryptocurrency startup, which uses the name of the fictional country Wakanda from the “Black Panther” comics and movie, for its own name.
Marvel Characters, a subsidiary of the comic giant, has requested some more time from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to decide on a possible protest against the registration of Wakanda Wine Fest and Wacoinda trademarks. The final decision should be made by November 14.
Both trademarks belong to Wilsondom LLC, a company that plans to provide financial and educational services in the field of cryptocurrency. For example, the Wacoinda trademark can be used as part of initiatives to increase the financial literacy and accessibility of financial services in the African American community.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
- Wacoinda is not the first crypto project inspired by the "Black Panther" movie. In June, African singer Akon announced the launch of the Akoin cryptocurrency and the desire to embody Wakanda in real life.
