A poll conducted by Wells Fargo, a banking company, and Gallup, a company that specializes in analytics, regarding the outlook of investors on bitcoin, shows that only 2% of investors currently own any bitcoin.

While this might mean that bitcoin is yet to shine, the survey shows that 26% of investors are interested in the cryptocurrency, while only 2% have acquired bitcoin, and an even smaller number indicated that they are considering to purchase bitcoin in the near future, a staggeringly small 0.5% of the investors.

The fact that the investors themselves know little about bitcoin is a hindrance, with only 3 in 10 investors claiming to know at least something about cryptocurrencies. However, the bigger setback is the fact that trading in crypto is perceived as unsafe. 75% of the investors consider bitcoin to be very risky, 26% think of it as only “somewhat risky.”

Age, sex, and income were other factors that were explored. The poll showed that roughly twice as many men knew something about digital currency than women, however, the gap lessened when it came to readiness to acquire bitcoin. People aged 18-49 were twice as likely to know something about crypto and twice as likely to want to get their hands on some crypto as their older colleagues. And finally, those with an income of $100,000 and over were more aware of bitcoin and more interested in buying some.

To put the numbers in perspective, quite an impressive 1,921 U.S. investors took part in the survey.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

  1. Getting the numbers regarding crypto awareness and interest in crypto is an important move in understanding the current crypto situation.
  2. As we can see from these numbers bitcoin has still some way to go to convince investors that it is a safe investment.
