The State Service for Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine announced that it will not include cryptocurrency mining to the list of licensed activities nor will be introduced in the near future.
The Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) appealed to the State Service for an explanations as to whether mining is a licensed type of activity. "Mining does not apply to licensed types of services and the administration of the State Service of Communications did not consider the issue of introducing licensing with respect to this type of activity," the ministry said.
According to data on February 1, Ukraine was in fourth place among the cheapest places in the world to mine bitcoin and the country had become an attractive place for miners due to the fact that in other European countries, the cost of mining digital currencies is growing.
Citizens of Ukraine are aware of the demand for digital currencies with 72% of them aware of what cryptocurrency is, and 13% of citizens who are owners of cryptocurrency.
