Zcash (ZEC/USD) - a self-proclaimed anonymous cryptocurrency, is about to have its first official network upgrade, as on June 25 Zcash will introduce the ‘Overwinter’.

Upgrade Features:

‘Overwinter’ will lay the foundations for future system upgrades by adding versioning and replay protection for network upgrades. The upgrade will also address some transaction-related issues too: performance of transparent transaction will be improved and a transaction expiry feature will be introduced.

Zcash website has a countdown page for the future upgrades which will come twice a year with ‘Overwinter’ engaging at block 347,500.

Zcash network was launched with the 1.0.x Sprout protocol and the ‘Overwinter’ upgrade is version 1.1.x and 2.0.x, with Sapling already in the pipe to be released later.

How to prepare for ‘Overwinter’ as a user:

Exchange or online wallet users must ensure that their third-party apps or service are supporting the upgrade. But Zcash users should have nothing to worry about provided that they have their system upgraded within three months.

Zcash also added that in order for the users not to stay on the old protocol and split off from the upgrade the setting “disable deprecation” shouldn’t be set on any wallets online or offline.

Zcash recommends stopping transferring funds for an hour before the upgrade.

Zcash Split Avoided

Earlier the upgrade was threatened by a dissatisfied developer. He called out Zcash core developers over not paying him for his efforts threatening to hard fork the Microsoft Windows system he ran away from the main currency. But everything went back to normal after he received anonymous donations.
