Denmark has signed a treaty of accession to 24 EU member states that supports decisions and standards related to blockchain.

More than 20 EU member signed the declaration on the establishment of the pan-EU blockchain partnership on April 10 as part of the European Commission’s Digital Day.

The main purpose of its creation was to expand cooperation among member states for the development of blockchain technology.

Brian Mikkelsen, The Danish business minister, said that Denmark will be the first country in the world to use blockchain technology to register ships in local registries.

"Blockchain goes across borders, and a joint European cooperation is crucial to ensure future-proof standards and solutions. So I'm very pleased that we have now signed this declaration," he added.

The minister also noted that government’s Disruption Council is investigating blockchain to use it for the business sector.

Recently it became known that the global leader in container shipping, the company Maersk, has officially started using the Insurwave blockchain-platform for marine insurance. It is expected that in the first year of work with Insurwave, Maersk is expected to insure 1000 marine ships, with the total number of digital transactions expected to exceed 500,000.
