A Seminole County, Florida tax collector will work with BitPay – a global bitcoin payment service provider to accept cryptocurrency as a tax payment, Coindesk is writing today.

According to the Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg, from now on his office is able to receive Bitcoin or Bitcoin cash as a tax payment for driver licenses, ID cards, automobile tags, titles, and property tax.

"The aim of my tenure in office is to make our customer experience is faster, smarter and more efficient, and to bring government services from the 18th century into the 21st century and one way is the addition of cryptocurrency to our payment options," says Joel Greenberg.

Tax collectors are hoping that once they will start receiving cryptocurrency as a tax payment, it will also reduce the potential for fraud and identity theft and increase transparency and accuracy in payments.

Greenberg's office doesn’t expect accepting cryptocurrencies via BitPay to create "price volatility or risk to the county."

Arizona’s House of Representatives Stalls the CryptoTax Bill

Earlier this year, the senate of Arizona also proposed a bill to allow its citizens to pay taxes using cryptocurrencies, but the House of Representatives attached amendments to it.

For BitPay, it will be the first time it will work with a governmental authority.
