Coinbase - the $1.6 billion cryptocurrency exchange - has acquired the Cipher Browser, a cryptocurrency wallet company that lets users store Ethereum (TIKER: ETH/USD.BITFINEX)-based tokens.

“Exciting news! Cipher Browser is joining Coinbase!” reads a post on Cipher's Twitter account.

Cipher Browser said the startup would merge many of its features with Toshi, the decentralized mobile browser launched by Coinbase developers.

Cipher creator Pete Kim will take on the title of head of engineering for Coinbase's Toshi and work alongside Sid Coelho-Prabhu, the current Toshi product lead.

In a separate tweet, Toshi welcomed Pete Kim and added:

“We're excited to combine forces and build the best browser for the decentralized web!”
