Intercontinental Exchange Inc. (ICE), the owner of New York Stock Exchange, has not ruled out the possibility of starting futures contracts on digital currencies, Bloomberg reported.
ICE’s CEO Jeffrey Sprecher says there is a trend they cannot ignore.
“People put more faith in a guy named Satoshi Nakamoto that no one has ever met than they do in the U.S. Fed,” he said.
“People are more comfortable in technology than the institutions of government and society that I grew up with,” Sprecher said.
CME Group Inc. and Cboe Global Markets Inc. started futures contracts on Bitcoin in December. The Bitcoin price touched above $19,000 following the news. Meanwhile, Nasdaq Inc. is also considering introducing them.
