Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) will join Facebook and Google to ban cryptocurrency advertising over the risk of giving publicity to potential fraud or large investor losses, Reuters reported.

The prohibition will cover advertising of ICOs, as well as token sales and crypto-wallet services, the firm said.

The new policy will further limit crypto-exchange ads on its platform. It’s not yet clear when the new rules will come into force.

Facebook has restricted crypto-related adverts, while Google earlier in March announced a ban that comes into force in June .

The price of Bitcoin (EXANTE: Bitcoin) is down more than half to around $8,000 from a December peak of almost $20,000 as fears of a regulatory clampdown spooked investors.

Bitcoin dropped 6.30% percent on Monday to $8 042,39, according to CoinMarketCap.com.

Ethereum (ETH/USD) has lost 8.11% over the past 24 hours to $480,77, Ripple’s XRP (XRP/USD) has dropped 7.17% to $0,594229.
