Global payments company Western Union is testing transactions using technology from cryptocurrency platform Ripple, Bloomberg reported.
The company’s CFO Raj Agrawal said it’s evaluating blockchain technology and is testing transactions with Ripple.
“Efforts are in a testing phase and not a key part of the business,” Agrawal said in an interview with Bloomberg News.
The company hasn’t found anything yet that would be a “big unlock,” he said.
The value of XRP tokens has appreciated 3.1% over the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $1.06, according to CoinMarketCap.com.
Last week, Ripple signed a deal with foreign exchange giant UAE Exchange to help facilitate cross-border transactions, although the deal is with the Ripple company itself and the UAE Exchange won’t use XRP tokens.
