The Segwit2x Bitcoin (Bitcoin) fork which was originally supposed to take place in November is all set to take place tomorrow, the 28th of December, CoinTelegraph reported.

The news has officially been announced on the website of the Segwit project by lead developer Jaap Terlouw.

He said “the fork aims to address issues of commission and transaction speed within the Bitcoin network.”

“Bitcoin is almost impossible to use as a means of payment,” Terlouw added.

The Segwit2x fork is going to bring down the block time to 2.5 minutes while increasing the block size to 4MB.

The founder also promised that in addition to the common practice of crediting BTC holders with equivalent balances of the new coin (B2X), they would also receive “a proportional number of Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoins as a reward for their commitment to progress.”

Bitcoin has witnessed four forks this year – the first one coming in August, which led to the creation of Bitcoin Cash, the second being in November, which resulted in the arrival of Bitcoin Gold, while two more forks took place in December where Super Bitcoin and Bitcoin Diamond came along. In addition to these, many forks are already being rumored for 2018.
