Elon Musk, co-founder of PayPal (TIKER: PYPL.NASDAQ), Tesla (TIKER: TSLA.NASDAQ) boss and CEO of Space Exploration Technologies (TIKER: SAEX.NASDAQ) , has denied being the creator of Bitcoin (TKER: BTC.EXANTE), Fox News reported.

“Not true,” Musk said on Tuesday in a tweet. “A friend sent me part of a BTC a few years, but I don’t know where it is.”

Musk was responding to a post on Medium last week in which writer Sahil Gupta floated the idea that based on Musk’s history of innovation across tech disciplines, his understanding of economics and cryptography and his coding abilities, it was possible that he was the author of the original document that proposed a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.

“If Elon is Satoshi, it seems like this knowledge would become public at some point anyway,” Gupta wrote. “But if it were public now, Elon could offer guidance as the currency’s ‘founding father’.”

The banter coincides with Bitcoin surging past $10 000 for the first time.
