The Tezos blockchain platform team has just activated Mumbai, the 13th update of the protocol, which integrates the second-tier Smart Rollups solution into the project's mainnet.

The Smart Rollups solution is reportedly based on Optimistic Rollups technology. According to Nomadic Labs, users now have the ability to run L2 nodes that are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and other virtual machines such as WASM.

This expands the list of programming languages suitable for creating and deploying decentralized applications on the project's network.

Mumbai is also making changes to the basic protocol. In particular, according to the project developers, thanks to the implementation of pipelined validation, the interval between blocks has been reduced from 30 to 15 seconds.

Recall the Tezos team activated the Lima upgrade in December, focused on increasing network bandwidth.
