Blockchain Devs Introduce EVM Sidechain for XRPL

Blockchain development firm Peersyst Technology have introduced the first phase of the EVM sidechain for the XRPL. Developers at Ripple say the solution means more developers can "easily access the XRPL's feature set and bring Solidity-based smart contracts to the XRPL."

The EVM sidechain is now available only for testing on the XRPL devnet. Blockchain developers can access it with a cross-chain bridge. It is assumed that the second phase will be launched in early 2023. It will feature a permissionless EVM sidechain and bridge to the XRPL devnet.

The third phase will roll out a permissionless EVM sidechain and bridge to the XRPL mainnet.

In March, Ripple said it would airdrop 1 billion XRP tokens to evolve XRP Ledger. The San Francisco-based fintech firm said it would provide long-term resources to support global developer projects built on the XRP Ledger.
