One of the largest South Korean telecommunications providers, KT Corporation, has launched development of its own cryptocurrency the "K-Token," ZDNet reports.

According to the announcement, the token won’t be public and will be used only by merchants within Gimpo-si, South Korea. ZDNet states KT Corporation and Gimpo-si have concluded an agreement and plan to present the real use of the token in April 2019.

K-Token could be used at franchises that do not pursue the purpose of monetizing the asset within the Gimpo-si jurisdiction.

What is more important is that this implementation of the crypto-related product by KT Corporation is far from being the first one.

Earlier, the provider introduced its own blockchain network, KT Network Blockchain with 2,500 transactions/second.
