What happened?

On January 10, a hacker group called The Dark Overlord (TDO) published secret documents, containing information on the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Almost immediately, after publication on Steemit, the hackers' account has been blocked.

Wait a minute... Isn't Steemit built on blockchain?

Actually, Steemit is a double-edged sword. Yes, Steemit represents the blockchain technology, however, Steemit is just an explorer of the blockchain, which is called Steem.

So… the data still remains on blockchain or not?

Yes. Despite the fact that Steemit may block any kind of content within its explorer, all data which is published on the blockchain network remains unchanged.

Is there any other option to see these banned data?

As it turned out, there are. Anyone can access censored data via other apps running on the Steem blockchain network.
