Edward Snowden, a former CIA and NSA official, has told at the Consensus 2022 conference that cryptocurrencies are valuable not as an investment tool, but as a means of payment, CoinDesk has reported.

According to him:

"I use Bitcoin to use it. In 2013, Bitcoin is what I used to pay for the servers pseudonymously. Generally, I don't encourage people to put their money in cryptocurrencies as a technology, and this is what distances me from a lot of people in the community."

Snowden has thus added his voice to the criticism of the "anti-cryptocurrency" letter that a group of technology experts sent to the US Congress in early June. According to him, the authors intentionally misinterpret some theses about the sector.

Snowden has said:

"The letter is an argument for the status quo. There are so many ways to address all of their concerns. All the people who have signed this latter could understand this industry. They certainly should."
