Chart of the day: GPU prices stabilizing after crypto-mining boom passes
Gamers can take a breather – the prices for video cards have finally stabilized and returned to the level preceding the mining boom.
Let’s consider the popular Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card for example. The minimum recommended retail price for it is $700, and in January 2018 (just at the height of the crypto-fever) it averaged at $1,200. It is no surprise that this caused considerable resentment among gamers, who had to spend much more money on upgrading their PCs.

What about the manufacturers themselves? Of course, the mining boom helped them to increase profits significantly. However, even after the video cards prices fell they have nothing to fear since gamers (unlike miners) are a stable audience with stable demand.
