Today, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the official launch of the national cryptocurrency Petro which will be used as a means of payment in international trade.

According to him, all citizens of the country can register on a special portal for opening an e-wallet, after which during the next week everyone will have access to Petro. It seems that Venezuela has become a leader in the field of national cryptocurrency, the first to fully embody the ambitious project in life.

What about the rest of the world? It turns out that Venezuela was followed by Tunisia, Senegal, and the Marshall Islands. In these countries there also exists a cryptocurrency launched by central banks. Others, for example, Hong Kong, Germany, and Japan (which, by the way, was the first to legalize payments in Bitcoins) abandoned this idea.
