Is it worth worrying about the centralization of bitcoin mining? Not anymore. In summer, Bitmain controlled almost 51% of the hashrate in the Bitcoin’s network. The pools belonging to the Chinese mining giant - BTC.com and Antpool - accounted for more than 26% and 17% of all open blocks in the bitcoin network, which really caused serious concern.
Some skeptics even assumed that Bitmain could seize the bitcoin network with an attack of 51%. Previously, similar attacks were successfully carried out against some altcoins, including Bitcoin Gold, Verge and Monacoin. However, Bitmain, apparently, was not going to do anything like that.
Today, the threat is gone. The bitcoin mining has become more decentralized. The share of Bitmain pools decreased to 29.4%.
