This week turned out to be very active one for the ICO community: in Switzerland and Taiwan authorities opened the doors to ICO projects while Hollywood and sports stars got involved with blockchain startups.
Here are the most interesting news for the current week:
Boxer Mayweather & DJ Khaled to Pay for Promoting ICO?
Famous U.S. boxer Floyd Mayweather and producer DJ Khaled were accused of advertising a fraudulent ICO. Centra startup investors have initiated a claim against celebrities in court. The deceived users are confident that celebrities knew about the bad faith of the ICO campaign and were even involved in fraudulent actions, and therefore should compensate investors their losses. In April, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) claimed that the founders of the Centra Tech startup created a fraudulent scheme. Both were subsequently arrested.
Johnny Depp to Endorse TaTaTu Blockchain Startup
Famous Hollywood actor Johnny Depp begins his cooperation with the blockchain project TaTaTu. Under the agreement the celebrity and the startup will be engaged in the release of the films. All digital content that will be produced under the agreement is planned to be released through the Depp’s film company Infinitum Nihil. In summer 2018 TaTaTu collected about $575 million during ICO campaign. The funds went not only into production of the video content, but also on creating a competitor to the Netflix platform. Viewers are rewarded for watching videos and adverts in the native TTU tokens.
Swissquote Online Bank Backs ICOs
Swissquote Online Bank announced that it had became the first bank in the world to allow its customers to participate in ICOs. Bank customers who do not want to miss this opportunity are not even required to understand how the blockchain technology works. The bank promised that among all ICOs that would work on their platform, they would select only “mature projects ready for launch” and carefully “analyze what is management, what is business, what financial indicators and what is the legal situation”.
Taiwan to Present ICO Regulations by Summer 2019
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) of Taiwan has developed a set of rules for regulating of ICO procedures. Now fundraising campaigns will become completely legal. As the FSC Chairman Wellington Koo noted, the regulatory framework will help simplify the investment process and give tokens more liquidity, while the regulation of utility-tokens will not be spelled out in the new rules. Koo added that the commission won’t limit the creativity and performance associated with cryptocurrencies if they aren’t used as securities. The final document will be prepared by the summer of 2019.
