Andreessen Horowitz Launches Crypto Investment Fund
Venture company Andreessen Horowitz has launched a $300 million fund for investments in crypto companies and protocols. The investment fund was named "a16z crypto". It’s “designed to include the best features of traditional venture capital, updated to the modern crypto world.”
The company explained that they have been investing in the cryptocurrencies for more than five years, and do not plan to sell their assets.
Tether Turns Up a Printing Press
Tether has issued an additional 250 million of their tokenized US dollars - USDT. The creator of Litecoin Charlie Lee, commenting on the issue on his Twitter, noted that the demand for tokenized dollars from holders of the U.S. dollar has turned out to be high enough for Tether to issue additional 250 million USDT. Crypto community reacted ambiguously following the news.
Binance Experiences Troublesome Upgrade
Binance, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges, has warned users that following a completion of a scheduled update, the start of trading and withdrawals was postponed.
This is due to a warning from pre-trading in the risk management system of the exchange. Binance has since resumed its operations, around two hours after concluding the upgrade.
Australia, New Zealand Not Ready for National Crypto
Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) says its completely against the possibility of launching the national digital currency "eAUD" and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has echoed the same position. Both countries follow the rest of the world in this regard, believing that at this stage, cryptocurrencies have not solved a sufficient number of problems.
Alibaba Affiliate Launches Blockchain-Based Cash Remittance
Chinese firms Ant Financial, which is a payment affiliate of the Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA), announced “the launch of their first blockchain-based electronic wallet cross border remittance service, and completed the first remittance.”
The first users voiced their satisfaction as AliPayHK from Hong Kong and the Philippine payment company GCash only took three seconds to process the payment.
