Meet the New Crypto Chief
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has a new chief. Valerie Szczepanik was appointed as the new Senior Adviser for Digital Assets to the U.S. government and Associate Director of the Division of Corporation Finance. The new chief will coordinate activity of all SEC structures that deal with regulation of securities and technologies related to digital assets and innovations, including ICO and crypto-currencies.
Blockchain Readies to Replace Paper Checks in China
China's central bank completed “the infrastructure of a system that issues digital checks based on a blockchain with smart contracts technology". This was stated by Di Gang, the deputy head of the People's Bank of China Laboratory for Digital Currency Studies, according to a local news source. As Di explains, in China, paper checks function as money orders. Since most businesses are not able to determine the authenticity of checks as well as banks, the number of counterfeit checks is growing. The blockchain platform will allow to control such transactions with the help of smart contracts. Di believes that this will help solve the problem of fraud, since regulators will be able to monitor all movements of a certain check.
Mining Equipment Imports to be Suspended in Vietnam
Ministry of Finance (MoF) of Vietnam intends to prohibit the import of equipment for cryptocurrency mining, at very least temporarily.The agency argues the ban is essential due to the difficulty in regulating the crypto industry. Ministers have submitted a formal document outlining the issue to the country’s Prime Minister who has earlier called for a stricter control on all cryptocurrency related activities.

Volkswagen to develop blockchain-based applications in partnership with carVertical. CarVertical, the vehicle history-checking blockchain start-up is set to work with VW group on developing a blockchain-based solutions to help the manufacturer to solidify its presence “as the leader for future mobility applications”.
Denmark Signs Blockchain Partnership Deal
Denmark has signed a treaty of accession to 24 EU member states that supports decisions and standards related to blockchain. More than 20 EU member signed the declaration on the establishment of the pan-EU blockchain partnership on April 10 as part of the European Commission’s Digital Day. The main purpose of its creation was to expand cooperation among member states for the development of blockchain technology. Brian Mikkelsen, The Danish business minister, said that Denmark will be the first country in the world to use blockchain technology to register ships in local registries.

DHL, the global leader in delivery and logistics, has entered into a partnership agreement with the TradelX blockchain platform. This was announced today at the Money20 / 20 conference in Amsterdam.
