Iran bans banks from using cryptocurrencies. Iran banned the use of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies by banks and financial institutions on Monday. Earlier this year, the country's telecoms minister Mohammad-Javad Azari Jahromi set up a team to create Iran's own cryptocurrency. While many see great potential in digital currencies as a way to overcome problems related to international sanctions, there are also fears that the technology could undermine the country's already weak banking system and exacerbate capital flight.

The identity of the parties involved in the transaction is not known.

Goldman Sachs hires first head of digital asset markets Wall Street giant Goldman Sachs has hired former trader Justin Schmidt as the investment bank’s first head of digital asset markets. Rumors about Goldman’s strategy for crypto-related offerings have circulated since December after Bloomberg reported the bank is planning the launch of a crypto trading desk by the end of June. If Goldman does go ahead with a crypto desk, it will be the first major US bank to do so.
