EOS, Bitcoin Cash and Ripple lead the way as cryptocyrrency market capitalization grows. Strong performances of major cryptocurrencies has led the valuation of the cryptocurrency market to surge to $378 billion today. With a 20% surge, EOS has once again surpassed Litecoin (LTC/USD) as the fifth largest cryptocurrency. Bitcoin Cash (EXANTE: Bitcoin.Cash) has smashed through $1,000, while Ripple (XRP/USD) is close to crossing the $1 mark.
Tezos co-founder sanctioned for false statements. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has suspended Arthur Breitman, co-founder of the Tezos cryptocurrency project, from associating with broker-dealers for two years. He has also been fined $20,000 for the alleged violations, which he neither admitted nor denied. The action follows Breitman’s failure to report any outside business activities while working at Morgan Stanley in 2014 and 2015, when he was developing and pitching Tezos.
Bitcoin Cash soaring in the run-up to hard fork. Bitcoin Cash smashed through $1,000 Friday in the run-up to a new hard fork expected on May 15. The hard fork of the currency will form Bitcoin ABC, an acronym for Adjustable Blocksize Cap, which will increase Bitcoin Cash's block size to 32 MB, a fourfold increase from the original 8 MB.
Monex CEO calls for tighter rules for Japan's crypto exchanges. Japan’s cryptocurrency exchanges should be regulated more like banks as they hold investors’ assets while offering trading platforms, says Oki Matsumoto, CEO of Monex, which acquired Japan’s cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck in a $33.6 million deal. Japan is a popular cryptocurrency hub with 32 crypto exchanges operating in the country. Yen-based trades accounted for over half of worldwide Bitcoin trades over the past 24 hours.
