Bitfinex denies involvement in money laundering case. Last week, authorities in Poland seized 1.27 billion Polish zlotys (~$371 million) from bank accounts belonging to two companies suspected of laundering money for drug cartels in Columbia. The firms are accused of involvement in Columbian drug cartel’s money laundering operation through a cryptocurrency exchange. Bitfinex sayd it has conducted an "internal investigation of its international organization," and found no connection between its operations and the two shell companies accused of defrauding the Belgian government and laundering funds in Colombia.
22 European countries Establish blockchain partnership. Twenty-two European countries signed a declaration on the establishment of a European Blockchain Partnership on The Europe Digital Day conference. The partnership will be a vehicle for cooperation among member states to exchange experience and expertise in technical and regulatory fields and prepare for the launch of EU-wide blockchain applications. The declaration highlighted how blockchain will work with other next-generation technologies to create a more digitally friendly and capable Europe.
Bittrex resumes registration of new users. US-based cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex has announced in its official statement the resumption of new user registrations. Bittrex also said it has made enhancements to the company’s website and the trading platform. New users will need to submit to identity verification procedures to use the trading platform. In December, Bittrex temporarily paused signups for new users to preserve the experience, stability and security of the platform for existing customers.
Australia’s first insured crypto exchange gets official license. Blockbid has become the third recipients of an Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre license, meaning the company has been granted permission to legally operate as a cryptocurrency exchange, according to Australian law.The platform’s main competitive feature which makes it different from many other trading platforms is providing insurance to users against any potential cyber-attacks.
