Binance planning to open office in Malta. Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by traded value, is planning to open an office in Malta. The Hong Kong-based company will soon start a “fiat-to-crypto exchange” on the European island nation, and is close to securing a deal with local banks that can provide access to deposits and withdrawals, Chief Executive Officer Zhao Changpeng said.

Yahoo Japan launching cryptocurrency exchange. Yahoo Japan is planning to launch its own exchange in April 2019 or later. The tech firm will begin an acquisition of BitARG Exchange Tokyo in April and will spend the next year using BitARG’s technology to build a full-fledged exchange. Yahoo Japan will purchase the shares in BitARG through its subsidiary YJFX, a forex transaction platform. The 40 percent stake will cost the firm around 2 billion yen ($19 million).

Telegram close to securing $1.7 million through ICO. Messaging app Telegram is close to raising another $850 million as its initial coin offering extends toward a third month. Telegram raised $850 million from large investors last month, selling rights to virtual coins called Grams at $0.38 apiece. The second round is targeting another $850 million at $1.33 apiece this month.

70% of cryptocurrency exchanges fail password security test. Over 70 percent of 35 leading cryptocurrency exchanges let users secure their accounts with inadequate passwords, according to a research by password manager app Dashlane. The researchers found that 43 percent of exchanges let users create accounts using passwords with seven or fewer characters, and 34 percent do not require alphanumeric passwords.
