Elaborating on his tweet from May 23 (“TRON 4.0 is coming!”), Sun has favorably compared the forthcoming TRON upgrade to Ethereum 2.0 and indicated that scalability, privacy and interoperability will be watchwords for the network.

In the newly-released video, Sun expressed doubt that Ethereum 2.0 would succeed while promising that TRON 4.0 would land in Q3 of 2020. Noting that the latter would enable third-party blockchains to integrate with TRON and communicate with other blockchains, Sun also stated that users would benefit from entirely anonymous transactions.
"If you want to be compliant, you can still make your token traceable and fully compliant to any law in any country," Sun revealed. "TRON will become compliance-friendly and also at the same time, we can meet the requirements of users."
Blockchain Scaling Race Intensifies
By introducing a Byzantine Fault Tolerance mechanism into TRON 4.0, Sun hopes to open up a gap (he might say widen) between his network and Ethereum where scalability is concerned. "TRON will become the only choice for dApps and other token developers," he predicted.
Ethereum advocates are likely to disagree with Sun’s bullish statements. The network recently announced that it would reduce recent congestion by integrating the OMG plasma sidechain to Tether (USDT), which accounted for almost 9,000 ETH in transaction costs in May. As for Ethereum 2.0, while there is no specific launch date, increased on-chain user activity and rising demand for ether suggests anticipation is growing. Moreover, Vitalik Buterin has indicated that "initial deployment of Ethereum’s layer 2 scaling strategy has *basically* succeeded. What’s left is refinement and deployment."
Can New NEO Trump TRON?
While TRON 4.0 vs Ethereum 2.0 remains a hot topic of discussion in the crypto community, they are not the only blockchains in line for an upgrade. Asian chain NEO is also redesigning its existing architecture, with NEO3 expected to launch later this year. Like TRON 4.0, NEO3 will favor BFT-style consensus, albeit a new version – dBFT 2.0. The open-source project’s stated aim is to build a smart economy and provide the foundation for next-gen Internet.
Other blockchain networks gearing up for their mainnet launch include AVA Labs and Elrond. This Cambrian explosion of new crypto networks will ensure plenty of flexing in the months ahead as their architects vie for technical supremacy.
