One of the largest manufacturers of central and graphics processors and chipsets for motherboards Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) will launch a whole line of miners. The company was not stopped even by the fallen profits, which are recorded due to the decrease in the popularity of mining on video cards.

AMD has entered into a partnership with major Taiwanese firms Sapphire, ASROCK, ASUS, MSI, Biostar, TUL and Rajintek, which are engaged in the production of video cards and coolers, with the aim of creating a whole series of new mining farms.

A total of eight different miners will be developed:

  • SAPPHIRE INCA ™ CS-14 Series (14 AMD Radeon ™ RX 470 Graphics Cards)
  • SAPPHIRE MGI-9 Series (9 AMD Radeon ™ RX 470 video cards)
  • ASRock Superb System (8 AMD Radeon ™ RX 570 or RX 470 GPUs video cards and a socket for an AMD AM4 Socket processor)
  • ASUS I (8 AMD Radeon ™ RX 470 video cards)
  • MSI Blockchain Rig F12 (12 AMD Radeon ™ RX 470 video cards)
  • Biostar A578X8D (8 AMD Radeon ™ RX 570 video cards)
  • TUL Power Hash A8 + (8 AMD Radeon ™ RX 570 video cards)
  • Rajintek Customizable Plug and Play Solutions (corporate solution that supports up to 10 AMD Radeon ™ video cards)

New mining devices from AMD and its partners are aimed at increasing the profits of miners who prefer to mine using video cards, despite the protracted stagnation of the crypto market. By the way, many manufacturers of video cards are now faced with a downturn in the cryptocurrency market and as a result of sales of equipment for mining. Therefore, the new step from AMD is also interesting. Apparently, the company still sees a great opportunity in crypto mining and does not plan to become a major player in this field. AMD representatives point out that the number of application options and the potential impact of blockchain technology is enormous.

Study: Mining GPUs Are Long Gone

Recall in October, AMD published a report stating that the sales of popular among the video cards miners are steadily falling. According to the document, the revenue from sales of video cards associated with the blockchain in the third quarter is much less than in the previous quarter. And the share of revenues from this area in the total revenue is expressed in percentage terms in a single digit. Analysts of the company suggested that sales of popular among the miners of GPU-devices will decline further.

The leading manufacturer of video cards and chips Nvidia also expressed pessimism. The company announced its decision to stop focusing on the cryptocurrency industry, citing as the main reason the low profitability that this direction brings to it. Nvidia CFO Colette Kress noted that in the time remaining until the end of 2018, the company does not expect sales growth in this segment.
